Every Tuesday between 10:00 am and 4:30 pm you will find in building C of the Poblado headquarters an adoption point of the Animal Welfare Center 'La Perla', a program of the municipality of Medellín, who in alliance with the CES University promote the animal welfare of domestic fauna and seek to sensitize and promote animal adoption in the university community.
“The University for several years has been operating and managing the La Perla Welfare Center, that is, it has been a strategic ally of the municipality of Medellín to cover all the needs of the city regarding the animal welfare of domestic fauna. The pearl has several strategic components that point to animal welfare, among them the issue of adoptions, which is what is being present at the university at this time, in order to give the university community the option of adopting first hand ”, affirmed Bibiana Correa Giraldo, project coordinator of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics of the CES University.
Each week, three to four companion animals (dogs or cats) come to the University accompanied by a multidisciplinary team, including a veterinarian, a technician from the education component and a social worker to support the entire process of awareness, education and responsible adoption.
To adopt, you only need to present the identity card, but, above all, it is necessary to have the responsibility and commitment that adoption implies, it is also important that all family members agree. If you want to adopt a feline, you must take into account the safety conditions so that the animal does not escape, if they have a balcony or window, they must be enmeshed.
The professional Correa Giraldo expressed “We obviously want to contribute to a specific need on the subject of responsible adoptions. Here at U, the community may be interested in having these pets as one more member of the family and we want to give the animals the opportunity to be in the best homes ".
The furry ones are delivered vaccinated, sterilized, dewormed, with daily clinical examinations and an implanted microchip. And something important, this whole process has no cost.
