The Medellín Academy of Medicine celebrated 133 years of history with the presence of a good part of the Antioquia medical union, including the CES University School of Medicine.
“We never thought to witness this convulsed year 2020, but despite the limitations and adversities, we gather to pay tribute to all medical professionals and especially, a posthumous tribute to all the colleagues who left before us in the circumstances of this pandemic”, Expressed Dr. Rocío Gómez Gallego, president of the Medellín Academy of Medicine.
The Faculty of Medicine of the U was present at the awarding by the Academy of the Manuel Uribe Ángel award in the Gold Category to the professor Dr. María Victoria Mejía Mejía and in the Silver Category to the student Dr. Ricardo Cano Castaño.
The Manuel Uribe Ángel award is awarded at the event through a choice made by the 6 Faculties of Medicine of Antioquia of a professor and a student who are outstanding for their work, both in research, as well as for the services and knowledge provided to the Faculty since teaching and studying.
Dr. María Victoria Mejía Mejía, who is a bacteriologist with 30 years of experience, as well as a professor at CES University 13 years ago, was surprised by the award and assured that the message of her work has focused on making teaching a pair work with students.
“It is wonderful news because the award recognizes something that is not only academic but also human among professionals: it is about the relationship with students, relationships with colleagues, and the good opinion that both directors of the Faculty and those who have of my work they know me in the classrooms”Said Dr. Mejía Mejía.
In the Solemn Session of the Academy of Medicine of Medellín, other awards were given such as that of Character of the year 2020 in Antioquia and the Gold medal, who were received by Dr. Francisco Javier Lopera Restrepo and Dr. Vilma Piedrahita de Mejía, respectively.
