The CES University of Medellín and its service centers inform the public that during the emergencies that occurred this Wednesday, October 2, 2019, the death of one person was recorded, the care of six injured and the total evacuation of 1,415 people at the headquarters Poblado, Envigado and Sabaneta.
At 9:33 in the morning, a landslide of proportions occurred in the back of the Veterinary and Zootechnical Center (CVZ), Envigado headquarters. In this situation, we regret to inform that an external student of practice lost his life, for reasons that are still the subject of investigation by the competent authorities, who carried out the inspection and removal of the body.
Due to the situation, Psychology personnel were available from the Office of Institutional Welfare and Human Development to accompany the victim's family members. The CES University Brigade group participated in the care of the emergency in the CVZ, who helped the situation in the first minutes of it. The management committee reported a total of 89 evacuated people, including administrative personnel and external public.
At the El Poblado headquarters, the Medellín Fire Department and staff from the Institutional Brigade attended to four people injured by the vehicular collision on the 7th floor of the parking lot of the B (Bienestar) building. Due to the emergency, three people were transferred to healthcare centers with torso burns, trapping injuries and nervous breakdowns. No deceased persons were reported. In total 994 individuals were evacuated from buildings A, B and C. Administrative and academic tasks returned to normal at around 9:33 in the morning.
For its part, the IPS CES Sabaneta reported an explosion due to the manipulation of a chemical substance on the 5th floor of the main building of the Sabaneta headquarters. Due to the emergency, the Sabaneta Fire Department treated a patient and transferred him under control to a nearby health center. In total, 240 people were evacuated, including collaborating personnel and external public. Around 9:36 in the morning, the return of activities at headquarters was authorized.
Regarding the project centers, at the La Perla Animal Welfare Center there were no injured people or damage to the infrastructure, only 69 people were evacuated. Meanwhile, 28 people were evacuated at the Wildlife Care Center (CAF), with no record of injuries or material damage. In both centers the return and normality of the activities was authorized at 9:25 in the morning.
Due to the incidents caused, it is estimated that there was damage to the infrastructure in the Poblado, Envigado and Sabaneta headquarters close to $ 400,000,000 (Four hundred million pesos). Part of them due to the damage to the Data Centers of Poblado and Sabaneta, without this jeopardizing the security of the data protection of the CES University and the IPS CES Sabaneta. Material damage is reflected in damage to windows, doors, walls, and furnishings in general. There was no fall of walls, nor serious damage to the infrastructure.
The behavior of the CES community in general was noteworthy in each of the points where the situations occurred, a calm and orderly evacuation was recorded. All emergencies were controlled after 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2019.
