The Internet offers us seas of information, alleged facts and often fantastic theories, which is why the CES University along with 52 other higher education institutions, the Colombian Association of Universities -ASCUN-, Colciencias, the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of TIC and Consortia, achieved a negotiation that would allow a large Colombian academic community to access and use highly qualified databases.
Today 53 IES, including the CES University, and 2 research centers in the country, the National Cancer Institute and the Colombian Agricultural Research Corporation - Agrosavia -, are part of the Colombia Consortium, thus enjoying the 5 most important publishing houses in the world.
“It seems to me an excellent decision by the University, since this allows the university community to access high-quality scientific information, since these resources were evaluated by the universities and the best ones were chosen. And it is ensuring that our community has access to the best resources available at this time ”, as stated by Carlos Alberto Castañeda Toro, assistant librarian at the Fundadores Library of the CES University.
The objectives of this consortium are: Strengthen the social appropriation of knowledge in Colombia, reduce gaps in the use and access to information, contribute to public research policies in the country and strengthen learning and research resources in higher education. Colombian, since it is estimated that 70% of the information that is hosted on the internet is false.
Carlos Elias Toro Garcia, analyst of the Fundadores Library of the CES University, expressed “I help many students and teachers in the search for that correct information, I advise them by helping them to let them search on the internet and rather search in databases of bibliographic data, change the habit ”.
That is why the main digital collections of the 5 most important publishers in the world were selected, which deal with multiple disciplines, including medicine, mathematics and physics, law, economics and finance, Oxford University Press: 357 journals. Springer Nature: The collection contains 2,212 journals. Taylor & Francis Group: 2,211 high impact magazines. Sage Publishing: composed of 1,093 publications. Elsevier: journals in multiple disciplines.
"I deeply love the library because the databases we have are large, everything is found and we have access to almost everything (...) Having these databases simplifies many things for teachers", declared the professor of Biochemistry of the Faculty of Medicine, Catalina Matías Orozco, “I use databases every day, and generally what I do is give a medical case to my students and I suggest bibliographies, including the consortium databases, especially Elsevier and Springer ”.
So far, around 676 students, teachers, graduates and employees of the University have been trained, as this is the public with access to the National Consortium.
This is the case of Carlos Arturo Cassiani Miranda, a student of the Master in Health Quality at the CES University, who told us a little about his interaction with these bases “I use them for bibliographic consultations of my activity as a researcher, as a student of Master's degree in drug addiction and as a psychiatrist who reviews clinical issues, since they allow me to know what is the best care that I should have with my patients ”.

From the Directorate of Research and Innovation an invitation is extended to all CES researchers to make use of these databases, as stated by Dr. Rubén Darío Manrique Hernández “get the most out of this bibliographic resource that we were eager to acquire, and let them read science ”because one of the most pleasant things for a scientist is to know what is happening in the world of science.
Get to know, take advantage of and disseminate this great initiative that HEIs from all regions have made to strengthen knowledge, research, science and culture in the country.
