The board of directors of the General Hospital of Medellín appointed the obstetrician-gynecologist Gabriel Mauricio Vélez Giraldo as manager in charge of the institution until April 1, 2020, replacing Jesús Eugenio Busdamente Cano, whose departure occurred after the conclusion of a disciplinary process against him.
Dr. Vélez Giraldo has performed care work at the Hospital since 1995. From the same date he has been a full professor at the CES University and currently works as coordinator of the area of Gynecology and Obstetrics in the CES Medicine undergraduate.
In his academic career, the manager in charge is a specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics, a specialist in Laparoscopic Surgery, a specialist in Public Health Management at our University and a specialist in Health Economics and Finance at the UPB.
The General Hospital of Medellín was founded in 1942. It is a third-level care entity, with a special category of decentralized public entity owned by the Municipality of Medellín.
Currently, the healthcare center has 442 hospital beds, attends emergencies 24 hours a day, comprehensively for adults, obstetric gynecology and pediatrics, all with availability in all basic and highly complex specialties.
