Registration is open for the second cohort for the free virtual COVID-19 course that will be available during May and which is an initiative of the Mayor's Office of Medellín, the CES University and the Antioquia Intensivists Group.

The virtual course that lasts between 2 and 10 hours contains topics ranging from generalities, diagnosis and treatment, triage, disinfection, respiratory physiotherapy, management of special populations, biosafety and management of the critically ill patient.

On the part of ouralma mater The faculties of Medicine, Nursing, Physiotherapy and Nutrition and Food Sciences participated in the project, taking into account that the course is aimed mainly at doctors, technologists in pre-hospital care, nurses, nursing assistants, physiotherapists, respiratory therapists, personal of hygiene and feeding of health institutions and orderlies, but the general community can also participate.

“This course seeks to train health personnel and inform the community about the health crisis due to the pandemic that generated COVID-19, the project is carried out in association with the Secretary of Health of Medellín and with the Group of Intensivists of Antioquia and we are preparing everything to carry out the second version of it ”, commented Dr. Carolina Cataño Velásquez, head of clinical postgraduate courses at the University's School of Medicine.

The Links Bulletin spoke with the doctor Ana Cristina Varela Rodríguez, one of the 20 thousand participants of the first version of the virtual course that was carried out in April 2020 to find out what her experience was like in it.

“I think it is a very complete course since we are facing a problem in which we are all learning and reinforcing concepts. For their part, the teachers make the lectures very interesting and thanks to them I feel stronger on the subject and accompanied, which is the most important thing, ” said Dr. Varela Rodríguez.

In turn, Luis Carlos Carmona, did the training in the community group in general and stated that: “Since I saw the course I wanted to do it for two reasons, I wanted to train on the subject to be able to take actions with foundations and on the other hand knowing that the course comes from a large institution, that also motivated me. Actually, I was very satisfied with the course, not only did I learn, but also at home as I was able to put many things into practice”.
