Sofía Gómez Uribe was born in Pereira on April 15, 1992. She is a Civil Engineer, graduated in February 2016 from the University of Medellín, but a freediver at heart. Sofía is considered a promise at a national and international level, as it has been able to achieve very good marks and records.
The three-time world record was with the students awarded by the Sofía Pérez de Soto Foundation of the CES University, talking a little about their lives and motivating them to achieve their dreams. And he gave us an interview for the Links Bulletin.
What is Sofía Gómez's link with the Sofía Pérez de Soto Foundation?
“I came to the Sofía Perez de Soto Foundation in 2017, looking for support to be able to meet my goals, to continue training and competing. And I got that support from the Foundation and it was super important so that that year I could set the world record that I achieved ”.
What was the hardest thing you ever had to do to fulfill your dreams?
“One of the most difficult things that I have had to do is make that decision to follow my dream, which has not been a conventional dream, is to get a little out of the system of thinking that I had to graduate from university and look for an office job in order to be successful. That has been very difficult, but I think that with discipline I have managed to get to where I am, and I am very happy where I have arrived ”.
What advice do you give University students to fulfill their dreams?
“That they always do everything with a lot of love and a lot of passion, sometimes things are not easy and you can be very demotivated, but never let little things make you go off the path you want to follow. And that laziness does not kill them too much ”.
What is Sofia's favorite mantra?
“My mantra are 4 words that the sea transmits a lot to me and when I am immersed I repeat them a lot: peace, love, tranquility and blue. And well, blue seems to me like all that in the same word. The blue is my favorite color".
Sofía, the freediver who has 3 records, what is she afraid of and why?
“I am afraid of cows. I don't know, they seem to me to be very scary animals, like I never know what they're thinking and they stare at you with those terrifying eyes, I don't know, they scare me a lot and people laugh a lot when I say that. "
