The postgraduate course, the only one of its kind in Latin America, was created in 2012 with the areas of deepening in Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Population Health, with the renewal of the qualified registry, 4 new areas in Bioengineering, Human Body Movement, Nutrition and Food will be offered , and Demographics.
“The program offers a number of important subjects where it is possible to develop competencies in Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Research of our students, the number of graduates, the teaching staff, the quality of the research they contribute in different topics of epidemiology, whose purpose is to contribute to the quality of life and the health of the populations of our region, were aspects taken into account for the renewal of the registry by the Ministry of Education”Said Dr. Angela Segura Cardona, director of the Graduate School, the agency in charge of doctoral-level programs at CES University.
Since its creation, the 21 students in training have been joined by 6 graduates of the program. Among the investigations that have been carried out in the framework of the doctoral theses, those that involve the study with the elderly population, informal working population, gender diversity, patients with chronic diseases, rural communities affected by infectious diseases, street population, population that injects drugs, among others.
“Through the research carried out in these areas of deepening, various topics can be addressed, ranging from the field of chronic diseases, infectious diseases, the evaluation of biodevices and their impact on the population, disability, nutrition, health inequities, and including research where work with animal populations is approached, such as the meritorious thesis carried out by one of our graduates on the generation of explanatory and predictive models of the sensory and nutritional organ characteristics of pork.”Added the professor and academic coordinator of the Doctorate, Oscar Quirós Gómez.
The Graduate School of the CES University also has in its academic offer the doctorates in Health Sciences and Public Health.
