Nutrigenetics refers to how each person based on their genetic makeup can have a particular response to nutrition, on the other hand, nutrigenetics is the genetic knowledge about the components of the diet that help health according to people's genetics. This knowledge was given in the Nutrigenetics and Nutrigenomics course for students of the Master's degree in Sports Nutrition at CES University.
"Nutrigenetics and Nutrigenomics: applications and new perspectives" is a course that is part of the Master of Sports Nutrition at the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences. 22 students in 20 contact hours and 12 virtual hours learned to use the knowledge of genetics to individualize a person's nutrition, either to improve their health or to improve their athletic performance.
" The information that nutrigenetics gives us guides us and helps us to have much more real information about the genetic composition of the person, it can serve for the prescription of much more personalized eating plans that the person or the athlete requires," he said. the coordinator of the Sports Nutrition Master's program, Maximiliano Kammerer López.
From the University of the Basque Country, Spain, Adrián Odriozola, professor of genetics and scientific director of the Sport Genomics research group, arrived to teach the Nutrigenetics and Nutrigenomics course in person.
Odriozola spoke about the importance of the course and how knowledge of genetics can be used to individualize a person to improve their athletic performance.
“On the basis that a nutrigenetic analysis this well done could provide us with information about our intolerances, such as gluten, lactose, fructose, and it can also tell us about susceptibility to various pathologies such as diabetes, obesity and hypertension ”, added the international professor and Spanish researcher Adrián Odriozola.
One of the objectives of the course is for sports nutritionists to learn how emotional and nutritional health are related and from there begin to change the lives of athletes to obtain better results.
